Hi Ilske,
I've not made lace with the bamboo threads, but I have purchased the fiber,
spun it into yarn on my spinning wheel and then knit up the yarn. I didn't
care for the end result. The fiber didn't feel great in my hands for spinning
which is important to me as it's a very tactile hobby, nor did it feel nice
knitted up -think plasticy. Perhaps if the fiber were blended with a softer,
natural fiber like cotton it would be better suited for clothing.
On the other hand, it is very shiny and does hold dye well. I have not seen
it in thread form but I can imagine that it might make a very nice thread for
lacemaking-smooth and shiny. I would imagine the end result would be less
crisp than linen or cotton, but maybe not.
Now you've got me interested again. I hadn't thought about thread when I was
spinning it before. I also have some ingeo fiber which is similar but made
from corn as well as some "soy silk" made from soy. They all have a similar
hand when spun and knitted and all are shiny and slick although the soy silk
probably feels the least plastic of the three. I may have to have my
daughters go through the stash of fibers I left behind in the States before
they arrive here next weekend for the holidays and try these fibers again with
a different use in mind!

  Hallo Everybody,
It wasn't shopping it was strolling along on our most expensive and
artistical Christmas market in the Museum für kunst und Gewerbe. I met
there a weaver who sells shawls done with thread from Bamboo. Has
anybody ever senn such a thread, it has a feeling like silk and is fine
(doubled). And did anybody make lace with it?
