Lynn W -
Midlands bobbins are the thin ones, with spangles (a ring of beads) on the bottom - there to add a bit of weight, - and to stop them rolling! Continental bobbins have bulbous shanks or bottom ends, and therefore the extra weight is in the bobbin, so beads are not needed. They tend to roll around on the pillow, so someone invented the square ones - so they don't roll! (Hooray!) It seems to be a matter of preference which ones you use. Beds, Bucks Pt. and Torchon are good with the Midlands bobbins, but if you do something like Milanese, or other braid laces, where there are a lot of sewings, then the continentals are, perhaps, better. Spangles can get in the way, a bit , with sewings.

For online shopping, I have shopped with Holly van Sciver, and Lacey Susan very successfully. --- Usual disclaimers - I am just a satisfied customer! They are both in USA so your postage should not be too bad.
