I am a relative newb at lacemaking and I am getting really confused with all the different threads and how to replace threads that are not in production anymore or simply wishing to use what you have instead of buying some more.
Is there a thread conversion map somewhere on the internet?

Not that I know of, but there's a terrific little book written by "our won" -- an Arachnean, Brenda Paternoster. It compares, for size, almost 1200 different threads -- the traditional ones (linen, cotton, silk) as well as some less traditional (modern metallics, rayon etc). It's an absolute "must have" for anyone who is caught with a "must make" project which recommends a thread that's no longer available.

Go to :http://paternoster.orpheusweb.co.uk/threads/threads.html

And get yourself a copy. It's not expensive but invaluable.
