Dear Arachnes, Today I received a chain letter from a member of Arachne that, printed, ran to 17 pages of people's private e-mail addresses. It did not have [lace] in the subject line, but I recognized the sender's ID and opened it.
I am sending this as a warning to all - if you see a screaming subject line in all capital letters referencing the TV program "Good Morning America", it is a chain letter promising payments. Bill Gates (Microsoft) can assemble all the lists he wants through other, more legitimate methods!!! Of course, if I had not opened it, I would not know my privacy had been violated, and my address was being forwarded on to many other people. With these things, even with a claim it was on a TV program, you need to know that not everyone participating may be law-abiding. Some could be crooks trying to assemble lists to use for identity theft, as it is one avenue into private lives which can be combined with others. We cannot buy insurance to protect ourselves from this sort of thing. We depend on "friends" to be considerate and intelligent. Several times in the past I have asked you to remove my e-mail address from your computer address books. Please do this. We need to protect ourselves, so we can concentrate on those people and things we love.
