I had the good fortune to hear Kaethe Kliot talk about laundering linens with lace. As an example she had an enormous banquet cloth with a wide lace edging all around. Kaethe's method is thus: Wash the item. Dry it stretched out as much as possible. Iron the lace. Last, iron the fabric to suit the lace. And NOT, Kaethe emphasized, the other way around.
