'Lace-making first came to Devon from Flanders when people came across after
the 1745 rebellion. (Families had originally fled to France). The skills were
passed on to the ladies of Devon (Honiton Lace). At that time Lady Hamilton
Forbes Stewart lived in Devon & her brother, who was the Laird lived in the
New Pitsligo area of Aberdeenshire, thought it would be a good for the New
Pitsligo ladies to learn.

I feel this is in part incorrect - Elsie Luxton quotes examples of Honiton
Lace dating back to the early years of the 17th century - to quote from her
book "The Technique of Honiton Lace" 'A collar of Honiton lace also adorns the
stone effigy of Elizabeth Pole, wife of Sir John Pole; she died in 1638'

Seems Honiton lace was made before the invasion of Flemish refugees.
