I'm currently working with all silver threads (mistake, but I'm
persevering), and working with a black markings on white covered in matt
blue film was causing me problems in being able to see the threads.
I needed a very dark background, but couldn't print light lines on dark
paper or card no matter what I tried. I use Lace 2000, and although you can
get a dark background and light lines, the colour of the background is
ignored when it prints. Fortunately Ruth Budge came to my rescue. She told
me to how import my pricking into the publisher part of the programme to
keep it the correct size and add background colour. It works. I'm sure
she'll send the instructions if you ask her. The only addition I made was to
put a single dot top left and bottom right outside the design and included
that in the import so that the dark background extended beyond the edge
pinholes and outside the actual pattern. I made the lines yellow in Lace
2000 and imported that into Lace Publisher, where I made the background dark
navy blue.
Now I needed to cover the pricking with film. All I had was shiny clear
(loads of that from my teaching days). I remembered that Liz Pass had said
that you can make it matt witha green scourer used for washing dishes. Works
a treat. Only needs a very light rub over with the green scourer to matt the
surface.
