Hello Barbara,
mechlin lace is Mechlin lace and doesn't belong to the Point Ground
laces. It belongs to the big Flandres-Lace-Family. The motives are
mostly in linnen stitch and souronded by a gimp. The ground was in 18.
cent. the so named hexagonal iceground. Made with cr t cr t cr t cr
t and without any pin!!!! Therefore it is difficult to work. In older
laces you find also the 8 or 12 "legs" armure-ground, I don't know how
you say to this ground in English in German it is 8-beinige Armure.
It's a lace like Chantilly which was worked in smaller parts and than
saw together for bigger pieces.
Greetings
Ilske
