Funny I'm in the process of discussing lace kit prices on my livejournal
even as we speak. My experience is probably slightly different than a
lot of you because I teach in the SCA, which means beginning classes
are pretty much limited to 2 hours. For my classes I charge a $35 kit
fee and that includes 24 bobbins, "lace pillow", pins, thread,
pincushion and handout including prickings.

I say "lace pillow" because what I actually use is a kickboard which I
get from Amazon.

for about $10 and then cover with blue broadcloth. I got this idea from
another SCA lacemaking teacher a couple of years ago and I really like
it. In the past the teachers in my region used some building foam of
some sort. I know they would buy it at large hardware stores and then
cut it down to size before covering with fabric.

BTW, I also use bobbins that I get from lacemaking circle
(http://www.lacemaking.com/LacemakingCircle.htm)

Note that when I make lace I usually use a bolster pillow but I don't
think I would try teaching someone for the first time on one.
