When I made my first stole (using ribbon, chenille, wool and everything else but the kitchen sink for thread), I had enough very large Czech bobbins to do the job. Now I want to make another one, twice as wide. So I made a bunch of extra large paper bobbins. Some of the wool is too thick to wind on my Midlands bobbins, or at best I would only be able to wind 1 foot on each of them.
