Can anyone suggest a Russian bobbin lace book

Sebastiana van den Herik's books ("Dieren in kleur" and "Motieven in kleur") have a good introductory section (same in both books, as far as I can tell) and, although the books are in Dutch, English translations are available. I like those two books very much because they're good "stretchers" in that their use of colour is really superb. But, if one weren't too sure of oneself, the same patterns could be made in a single colour, where some of the mistakes would be less obvious.

All of the Russian tape is, basically, suitable for inexperienced lacemakers and it doesn't make all that much difference which book you're using. I taught myself Russian from a Dutch book ("Russische kant", by M. Polfliet-Pauwels) which had no English translation at all except for a short -- maybe 50 words -- "dictionary". Between the photos -- which showed wat you were aiming at , and the diagrams -- which showed how to get there, it was perfectly sufficient, since you almost never use more than 6-8 pairs...
