I think when this was discussed on the list last time someone came up with the idea of using the tiny little hair clips to hold metallic thread in place. I tried it and it worked a treat. These clips close to about a pencil thickness and sort of mesh each side of the bobbin but I can't remember what they are called, not so popular now but I'm sure still available jenny barron NE Scotland
