All lace questions are welcome here.

In the ideal world (if there is such), a lacemaker
would have a full supply of bobbins in each size and
style to suit whatever thread/lace style she wanted to
work with.

In the real world, we use what we have available. Yes,
it is preferred to have all the bobbins on one project
matching as closely as possible. For the really
speedy lacers, matching bobbins help a lot. For those
of us who are more deliberate, mixed bobbins are not
as much problem. I have mixed various kinds when I
was short of matching bobbins. It was not a serious
problem to deal with. I do prefer a set that's close
in size and weight but will use whatever I need to use
in order to make my pattern of choice.

Over a period of time, bit by bit I accumulated more
bobbins, and more pillows....which needed more bobbins
again. <G>

Use what you have, now, and put bobbins on your wish
list for birthday, Christmas, and any other occasion
that comes along. The next time you do a pattern this
size, you might not need the travel bobbins to fill
out the number.

Have fun with your project.
