Can you explain why there are the two pieces of wood coming out of the pillow Antje? I've always been curious to know. Our Maltese pillow is similar in that it is an upright pillow - only thing is that it is usually in the shape of a bolster, whereas the Spanish one is flat at the back. Also, we don't have the sticks coming out the top. Next week I am going to Coruna for the Lace Fair and Exhibition and I hope to see these pillows in person (apart from the Spanish lace which I am simply crazy about - who knows I may never work Maltese lace again!) In the NW of Spain, in a region called GALICIA, lace has been made for centuries and has been sold by the fishermen's wives to get some extra money to their low incomes. Now you have the opportunity to watch a video made a few days ago in a lace meeting in Pontevedra (one of the cities of this region). You can see the typical Galician pillows, which have two sticks of wood coming out of the pillow on the top. You can also see the traditional wooden bobbins... the coloured pins they use. And in the end of the video, a young teacher speaks a bit about the revival of this tradition, which should never be forgotten. I hope you find it interesting and enjoy watching it. This is the web: http://descubregalicia.com. Enter the language you want. Then go to VIDEOS. IN the long list, select Palilleiras Pontevedra.
