Hi Alice and everyone At first I thought your subject line referred to the title of the lace book - Nur Torchon, Only Torchon? by Inge Theuerkauf, which has brilliant patterns, many quite challenging.
If I was restricted to just one kind of lace, I would choose Torchon, a wealth of patterns there from published sources and plenty of ideas to explore in design. I think Torchon lace has been given an unintentional 'bum wrap' with the English-speakers' understanding that the word 'Torchon' is the French word for 'rag' - whereas it is more appropriate for lacemaking that the French for 'twist' is 'torsion' => Torchon.
