Dear Fellow Arachaneans,

I apologize for the delay, but here is a short report about the exhibition held
last weekend in Pärnu, a town known as the summer capital of Estonia.

There was a workshop on Friday & Saturday, for those lace-makers who
wished to try a new lace. I was informed by e-mail that Binche would be
the lace taught, by some Belgian lace-makers, but when I got to see what
had been made, it was Duchesse made with very fine thread (120 cotton).

Two ladies from Hungary were invited to showcase Halas needle lace & the
Belgian lace-makers brought samples of Binche & Duchesse to display.
There was also a large display of beaded jewelery made by a Russian lady &
a display of coloured crocheted Setu lace. Setu is a town in the south-eastern corner of Estonia. On Sunday there was a new display of knitted Haapsalu shawls.
Some lace-makers from Rauma in Finland had also brought some beautiful
lace as well as posters & literature advertising the Rauma Lace Festival that is held the last week in July every year. And there was lace brought from Latvia
so that the exhibition was truly from other countries, not just Estonia.

It is a pity that the display was only open for 2 days but many people came to
admire the beautiful hand made lace.

Regards,
Pene in Tartu, Estonia
