The best reference is the Anchor Manual of Needlework Chapter 11. I bought a book in Italy but it is in Italian and I think it is out of print. Manuale del puncetto valsesiano by Angela Petterino Camaschella. Valsesia Editrice, Borgosesia 1992. No ISBN.
