Dear Malvary,
A quick look at the 1851 census shows that she already had 3 boys -
Thomas (6), Barkos (3) and Parosh (10 mo).
By 1861 she is working as a shoe closer (lots of shoe making in
Northants) and has 6 children. Thomas is now 16, Barkos 13, Parosh
must have died. There is a girl Vennetia 10. Then David 9, Parosh 7
(often named a subsequent child after one who died), and Abrose 1.
By 1871 she is still possibly working as a shoe maker (the ditto
marks are not very clear). She has David age 15, Ambrose, 11,
Herbert 4 and grandson George Ambrose 2 with her.
In 1881 she is a widow and back to being a lace maker. She just has
son Herbert 14 with her.
Can't find her for sure in 1891 or 1901.
Thank you - I did have all that. Mary died in March 1907 at
Northampton aged 83 yrs. it was her grandson (via her son Barkos) who
came to Australia between 1901 and 1916, and in fact her great
grand-daughter Olivia BARKER is still alive and well at 91yrs old in
Melbourne. She is Mrs Leonard EBDON. Sadly, the family know nothing
of any history of lace making.
