But, if you look at Insertion 27 in 101 Torchon Patterns (page 64 in my
1988 copy) you will see exactly the same pattern, but at a scale
suitable for thread rather than cable - which I would call a
"traditional" style design (having had a chance some years ago to look
at the lace in a couple of the Nottingham Trent University collection's
dealers' pattern books), and in that context, it is reasonably fine.

The question there would be that if we took a traditional design, and
enlarged it way beyond the original design purpose, would it be
considered contemporary? Even the use of colour isn't new, as the old
pattern books show....
