Hi Arachne people
I'm de lurking to ask for help from some of the very knowledgable folk on
this list, particularly those of you with experience in conservation
matters.
I have been making Honiton lace for a wedding veil over the last 20 years.
The end is in sight, the lace is almost finished and DD gets hitched in Feb
08. I need to organise the net/tulle to mount the lace on. I have some
cotton net but it is a little heavier than I would like and finding fine
cotton net/tulle is well nigh impossible. I have however been able to find
very fine silk net/tulle which looks beautiful as it has a slight sheen to
it.
My big question is - if I go with silk, will I be setting up major problems
for the future. The cotton lace will last well (longer than I will!) so long
as it's treated carefullly but what happens over time if I mount cotton on
silk?
I'd appreciate any ideas on this.
Regards
Annette in Melbourne
