Dear Lacemakers,

This correspondence reminded me of something I wanted to share with *U.K.*
lacemakers.

At Allhallows Museum in Honiton, in May 2007, I saw a bookcase full of used
lace books for sale. They were what we consider the English lace classics
printed in the last 30 years.

This resource supports a good cause. I would warn people in other countries
about ordering from the U.K. Postage has escalated to unreasonable levels.

During my tour of Western England and Wales, I sent home just one box of
books, measuring 12" x 10" x 8 1/2". The postage in British funds was
L59.10,
or American about $120!!! For 7.660 kg, Int'l Parcel Economy, and it came
by ship, taking 7 weeks. Never again. I think high postage will begin to have
an effect on British authors and publishers. There was the option of taking
on plane and paying for overweight, but I don't trust them to get my luggage
to destination - so much is reported to be lost in transit!

I have sent home many boxes of books from Europe, but this was probably the
last. One year I stacked the boxes from Scotland after they were emptied, and
the stack was over 5 feet tall. It will be a decision of how much can be hand
carried now that age is creeping upwards and strength is creeping downwards.
