How right you are, I usually love the piece of lace make it and then try to
find something to mount it on or in. It is definitely the wrong way of
doing things but then again I am impulsive.

I will try very hard to make my lace the sensible way in future.

Cheers

Subject: [lace] Planning Finished Lace Presentations in Advance

Dear Lacemakers,

Thought I'd share some designing wisdom from my Hungarian friend, Ilona.

Preparation is her mantra! When Ilona has an idea, she begins at the end
in her mind. What will be her presentation? How can she achieve that?

For example, If she is thinking of using a 1 1/2" round pendant, she shops
to
see if such a pendant is available -- first. Pre-made frames come in
standard
sizes. It helps to know those measurements before starting a time-consuming

lace project. Same with tray inserts, etc. Sometimes designs have to be
modified to fit. Otherwise, a custom-made solution will add unexpected
costs.

When presentation challenges have been solved, Ilona's final design is
developed. Only then does she select threads, thread sizes, amounts of
thread
needed, etc.

Thinking about how you will present your lace, and making sure what you
have
in mind is even on the market, saves a lot of time at the end stages of what

you are making. Certainly worth some thought by those who have not
approached
a lacemaking project this way before.

Here is my mantra: You can make a perfect piece of lace look ordinary, if
you do not know how to present it. You can make a so-so lace look better,
if
you have mastered the art of presentation.
