It certainly looks very like all the Maltese lace that I have seen plus the design is very like a piece of black Maltese that my sister has,she bought it in a flea market for just a couple of pounds very dirty and just laid in a heap, we took it with us when we went to Gozo and the woman in the lace museum in Victoria/Gozo told her that it was a pre second world war piece of Maltese lace that was worn over their hats and just hung down in front of them on either side. She said it was part of Maltese heritage and should remain in Malta and was upset when she offered my sister 100 Maltese pounds for it and my sister declined. The cross is very often part of Maltese lace design
