I've just done a bit of Googling and found these:

It seems that Venus Thread Inc (Georgia USA) is a subsidiary company of
Saha Union in Bankok, Thailand.
They make a variety of polyester, rayon and nylon sewing threads and
cotton crochet and embroidery thread, but no mention of silk!
Venus Europe

is less informative, but they make stranded cotton, perle and crochet
cotton. Again no silk.
The only Venus threads I've seen are the little balls of 70 crochet
cotton and cotton perle in sizes 8 & 12.
The box of crochet cotton has the same logo on as the American company,
and one similar, but not identical to the European company so I'm not
really sure whether the two companies are connected or not!
Lace Express get their patterns from designers around the world so
theoretically anything could have been used for the original, and as a
lot of people say "embroidery silk" when they really mean stranded
cotton it's very difficult to say what thread is intended. Unless any
one knows otherwise, I would suggest choosing a thread based on the
scale of the pricking and what is available here in England.

I am looking at making one of the Queen cards in a recent Lace Express.
The thread detail says:
VENUS / BULK
SILK 30
Anyone any idea what this is - I've tried Brenda's Threads book but
can't find
it there. The only references on (albeit a rapid) Google seem to be for
stranded embroidery silks - would this be what was used?
