Hi Rosemary
Yes I also have a pointed one - I can just about remember 'helping' my
mother make peg rugs usually cutting up the pieces of cloth!
Best wishes
Diana

Subject: [lace] Drop Spindle ?
No it definately is not a drop spindle, a drop spindle has a whorl either
near
the top or near the bottom, and does not have loose rings on it which
would
unbalance the spindle while it was spinning.
Diane, I also have the clip sort of tool with the metal tip, but there is
also
a "prodder" type tool for making rag rugs, it has a ball shaped handle and
a
pointy bit for poking the rags into the sacking, which led me to the
possibility that the "thingy could be a similar sort of tool perhaps used
with
yarn.
I am suitably amazed to know that the "thingy" is for frothing chocolate
in
Mexico !!, the last thing I would have thought of LOL !.
