Dear Alice: I hope you're feeling better soon. I had a bad fall last Mother's Day during the Lowell flood and was knocked out. I sustained a head injury and lay in the rain and missing downspout water. I thought I was screaming for my husband and was embarrassed that the neighbors would see me, but he said the noise sounded like a cat mewing on the porch! He split his pants trying to help me up and had to take me to the hospital like that. ANYWAY -- the incident made me very conscious of cluttered halls, stairs and lack of good lighting in our house. So we are adding better lighting and more of it to our house in general AND RAILINGS. So my point in writing is two-fold: get-well wishes for Alice and to pass on the potential dangers that lurk in our everyday environment, possibly more dangerous because we are used to them. I was actually outside at 9:00 a.m.,rushing to get to my office, and the stairs were unbelievably slippery from days of rain. So, it can happen anywhere. I wish there had been a railing. Take care Alice and everyone out there. Linda Sheff
