If sewing by hand is more appealing than machine, go for it; if the machine
makes a better job and the lacemaker is happier, go for that ;)

As I am clumsy with the machine and lace, and not very good at all with
fancy handsewing - here is what I do to attach lace to fabric. With matching
thread I baste it in place on the fabric with small stitching on a day of
good light and with my reading glasses firmly upon my nose, I trim the
fabric close to the basting - and that's it :))

My one attempt at the three- or was it four-corner stitch was ugly - but I
can baste a line of stitches as straight as an arrow, or follow a curving
lace edging. It works for me :D
