I really like that.
Wish our local council would consider something appropriate for Poole, which
has one of the largest natural harbours in the world. So far we have a
"Lighthouse" that doesn't have a light and isn't visible from the sea - it's
what they've called the arts centre, previously called "Poole Arts Centre".
Currently, they're considering a giant steel sundial "The Solar Pyramid",
the height of the Stature of Liberty and taking up the area of two football
pitches, for the edge of the bay. There's considerable opposition to it
within the town. It was planned for Derby, but it hadn't even got started
after 7 years, so now they're trying to persuade Poole to have it.
Something maritime would be suitable as we have the headquarters of the RNLI
(Royal National Lifeboat Institute) and Sunseekers, the luxury yacht and
motor cruiser manufacturer here.
We've no chance of getting anything related to textiles in any way. Have any
other towns, cities, villages got a textile related focal point of some
kind?
