I'm moving this question to Lace.

My short answer is:
Keep the spangle loops small -- less than 1" across.
Use glass beads.
Use smooth beads -- no sharp points to snag threads.

When done, hang them on your Christmas tree as
ornaments and keep using your Binche bobbins. It will
take you years of gifts to get enough to really use
unless you invest a pile of money, or buy the cheap
plain bobbins.

Fancy wood and/or decorated Midlands are much more
expensive than continentals. I do have to admit that
a full pillow of decorated Midlands is eye candy. And
I have lots of them, thus know the $$ investment that
went into them.

My current favorite bobbin is a small Belgium, just a
bit larger than your Binche bobbins.

Now -- Your favorite spangling tips, please.

Alice in Oregon -- where my cast was removed yesterday
but I have a long way to go to get my hand and fingers
working again. I've been told that it can take up to
a year before all the pain is gone.
