Just in case anyone hasn't got the book and is confused, the title,
"Antique Point and Honiton Lace", gives the contents of the two sections
of the book in one go - "it does what it says on the cover"!! :-)

The first section is a description of how to make the tape laces of the
period - Branscombe and such like, and if I remember correctly there is
a page of engravings showing the tapes available to purchase - which are
not solely for Branscombe Point. There are wonderfully clear diagrams of
the filling stitches - I would have been lost without it when I had to
make a couple of samples of Branscombe Point for City & Guilds!

The second half of the book concentrates on how to make Honiton bobbin
lace, with a few pages at the back devoted to the care and cleaning used
at the time the book was published.

I think her style of writing is wonderful too, especially in the
introduction when she is comparing the number of lacemakers, and their
earnings, to times gone by - the lacemakers had definitely, by the time
she wrote the book, fallen on hard times.
