To me this lace has the characteristics of a very simple Chantilly - couldn't that be a Tulle ground? The motifs are outlined in gimp and look like half stitch (not linen) and there are picots on the edge - all essential to Chantilly. Chantilly was made by machine as early as the 1870's.

Subject: [lace] Ipswich Lace on eBay?

There is currently a listing on eBay for a length of black lace. It is very simple in design, and seems to be fairly unevenly worked - signalling the likelihood that it is handmade. It is being sold from Pennsylvania. I wonder if this is some Ipswich lace?

Does anyone out there know enough about this lace to make a judgement on that?

Thanks for your ideas on this. I'm totally "in the dark" when it comes to Ipswich.
