Jumping in here so don't know if this was shared already. The best I know
(from smocking) is to pull floss in the direction where the nap is down, as
there is least resistance. As I am sure you all know, if you run your finger
one way down the length of floss, and then the other direction, one is
smoother, and one is rougher. Draw in the direction which will give the least
resistance, thus curling and knotting is greatly reduced.
If you are hoping to have fewer cuts, then unfurl the whole length, and pull
from the center (folded into an upside down U). Taking up a bit at a time, and
pulling down the other four "resisting" fibers, and then repeat the procedure
until completed. I think most times people don't just pull up even say 6" and
then pull down on the rest (gently) and force trying to get more out, which
just tangles more.
