Hi Patsy,
About 4 or 5 years ago I made bobbinlace using Gold Rush thread ( the heavy
stuff) as a part of an international group making the lace for the dancing
costumes. The Gold Rush thread was white with a metallic strand. This
bobbinlace was hard to do for the Gold Rush is so thick but it had to be to
stand out from the velvet material the lace was applied to.
The lace designs were Ann Keller's from Ireland. If you go to my website and
click on the Bobbinlace link to the left you will see pictures of the lace
actually being formed on my pillow using my hand painted cartoon continental
bobbins. I was actually commissioned and paid to make that lace and I made
enough of it for a couple costumes...I did this for about 3 years and the lace
was sent to Ireland when finished, where it was applied to the dresses. I
remember there was a time it all had to be done and I remember lacing and
lacing and lacing to make the deadline to get the lace sent off to Ireland.
Ann Keller's website url is:

I think if you go back far enough in her newletter you will see the write up
about the Bobbinlace for the dancing costumes.
My website url is:

if you want to see the lace in progress
I still have the patterns for the bobbinlace and I have thought about shrinking
the butterfly pattern down to make it smaller and use a finer thread than Gold
Rush.
Anyhoo....I hope this maybe what you remember and are looking for Patsy.

Subject: [lace] Lace on Irish dance costumes?

Hi everyone,

A few years ago, I remember seeing some pictures of Irish dance costumes
that were decorated with hand made lace. I'm not sure, but think it may
have been bobbin lace but may have been tatting. Does anyone remember who
that person is/was and are those pictures still available to see, any place?
With every one talking and designing things for St. Patrick's Day, tomorrow,
I thought this would be a good time to re-visit those dance dresses.

Happy St. Patrick's Day tomorrow.
