Today, Martha showed how to wrap a length of wide lace edging (one you will throw away after dyeing, so machine-made) around a hard boiled egg, with enough tails to twist tightly at the back, and secure with a small elastic of the kind we use to hold two bobbins together when we are running out of thread on the old bobbin. You could also sew the twist in place to hold the lace at the back. Try to position lace so it will show best features of lace on the front side. Do twist neatly, because it will show on the back of dyed egg. Then the lace-wrapped egg is lowered into the dye pot by the tail ends of the lace. Make the tails long enough to not damage your finger nails with all the manipultions. You can also use lightweight lace yardage that you may have left over from a sewing project and wrap the whole egg, twisting at the back. When you remove the eggs from dye pot by the twisted tails, *put on plastic gloves to protect your hands from dye*. Cut off the lace, and blot the wet egg in a soft paper towel to remove excess dye water. There are pictures on _www.marthastewart.com_ (http://www.marthastewart.com) today, and if you do not find them right away, search for "Lace Easter Eggs". The ones she showed were lovely shades of aqua blue. Happy Easter to those who observe this Holiday. Jeri Ames Lace and Embroidery Resource Center
