Torchon is very precise, so unlike some of the other laces, you can't get away with mistakes as they stick out like a sore thumb. So in some ways it's a more difficult lace to make than many others.

I learned so much about how lace is constructed doing the UK Lace Guild Assessments in Torchon. I completed Elementary and Intermediate, but only worked through the Advanced so I could understand it, and now I'm very critical of what I do. I didn't think my finished pieces were good enough to submit for the advanced assessment.

I really object when people say that it's an inferior lace.
