A couple of years ago I treated myself to one of these magnifiers, that pin onto the pillow, and find it Great for sewings, etc. I only get it out when I need it, I don't use it all the time.
I wear Multifocal specs all the time, and find magnifiers a bit of a problem. The chest one does not hold in place all the time, and clip on ones are difficult with the multifocals to find the right place to position them! I worked Ok with the "Daylight company Flexilens in mini-base". Mine also has a small area for greater magnification "for spot-checking". As Alice says, though, don't leave it on the pillow without covering the lens as soon as you stop working, so you don't start a fire.
