The way I was taught to get prickings to line up correctly was to put a pin through a pinhole in the top pricking, and then through the corresponding pinhole on the bottom pricking. Do this for at least two pins across the pricking. Then pin down the new pricking at the sides. Afterwards you can remove the locating pins.
