I inherited 2 bone stilettos and a bag of about a dozen bone "curtain rings"
in sizes ranging from about half an inch to one and a half inches in
diameter just like these. They were in a needlework box which had belonged
to DH's great-great aunt. She did a lot of fine embroidery, and, although I
didn't know her, I'm told she made broderie anglais and used the stilettos
to makes holes to embroidery round. There were a couple of buttons made from
the rings, but they weren't any where as near as nice or as neat as Dorset
buttons, so I assume that was what the rest were intended for. I have no
idea where they are now - they probably got lost in one of our house moves.
I later found out that she also made lace and that her bobbins and bolster
pillow were thrown out.
