There are 2 books by Heather Toomer that are very similar, but not
completely. Enough different that for a lace library, I have both. The
American one
has color photography, has more pages, and is printed on a better grade of
paper. The two I have are hardbacks, and the same basic size but different
number of pages. No mention in the American one of the earlier, but some text
is word-for-word. Perhaps there was enough difference to not mention Batsford.

1. 1989 - "Lace - A Guide to identification of old lace types and
techniques" Heather Toomer, photography by Cynthia Voysey, jacket cover is 2
laces
over a orange and a pink foundation, Batsford, 192 pages, ISBN 0-7134-5701-5,
jacket price 25 English pounds.

Pub. before internet orders could be processed.

2. 2001 - "Antique Lace: Identifying Types and Techniques" Heather Toomer.
With Price Guide. A Schiffer Book for Collectors. Jacket cover is black
background, primarily a portrait of a unknown gentleman by Cornelius Johnson,
1593-1661, wearing a falling collar. There is a small lace pillow at bottom
left, 6 squares of lace samples down the right side. 248 pages, ISBN
0-7643-1384-3, jacket price $50. I would recommend buying this newer
publication,
which is the title Patty has told you about.
