My lace teacher could tell when cotton or silk lace had not been left "in pins" for at least 24 hours. I can't, but she could. It wasn't a matter of shrinkage, she said the pattern was crisper and cleaner when the thread had a chance to 'get used to" being in its new shape. I'm a slow enough lacemaker (and have little enough time to make lace) that it's rarely a problem. On a block or roller, I don't make so much at a single sitting that it can't be rolled or pushed toward the back. I don't have to remove the pins till the next time I sit down (or the time after that....). When I finish a bookmark, I let it sit till the next day. I can admire it on the pillow till then. Robin P.
