To Dee: have you tried yarn bobs? They are these cute little plastic thingies
that look like half of a bagel. The rounded side "flips" up to install the
ribbon, perle, floss, whatever on an inner spool, then snaps back down to cover
the strands & keep them clean. The flipped down flap holds the ribbon in
place, but ribbon may be pulled out with a slight tug. I use them for Japanese
braiding on a kumihimo disk, storing all sorts of specialty threads etc. They
also snap together so you can stack 'em. Cheap, easy & available from The
Lacemaker in Cortland, OH, USA. To Clay: Thanks for the clarification on rose
ground vs virgin ground. I guess that's why I use color coding rather than
descriptions as your tomayto is my tomahto. Well, it's off to Louisville, KY
for classes in Tudor embroidery & rozashi at EGA seminar. I hope to make some
silver & gold lace to finish the sweet bag as I believe it will bring out the
spangles & purl. The teacher is from Glasgow & thanks
to her nice bibliography, I've already steeped myself in all things
Elizabethan. Have a fun week! Sincerely, Susan
