Janice,
sorry but I am wondering that you told us this
 It is usually surrounded
by a gimp which makes it look like round holes.
I have a few pattern were it is like this but mostly the honeycomb is without gimp. Looking throgh the book from Br. Cook "The Bobbin Lace Stitches" I am very astonished what else has the word Honeycomb in. In Germany we name it Rosengrund and we could do it in every ground- stitch we all knew. Sometimes we work it as a net as on page 42 in the Cook book. But more often it is part of the pattern between Torchon- ground or others. I like it very much for of them tofgether and surounded with Torchon- ground than the honeycomb form a little flower. Often honeycomb is used as a decoration on the edge. It is one of the Torchon grounds we also find in other lace techniques.
