Dear Susan,

It would be helpful if you **and other traveling lacemakers** would give us
the geographic location from which you are writing as well as where you are
going when you ask travel questions, because your e-mail address does not give
us a clue.

Is your destination Cardiff? A Wales venue for *what* group? (Maybe
someone else is going your way!)

I will never fly into London again - just too busy, unfriendly, and
disorganized to get around airports. I went to southwest England (including
Honiton)
and Wales on a specialized needlework trip in 2007. Flew Continental from
Newark, New Jersey (USA) airport to Bristol, England nonstop overnight. Used
AAA for my air travel arrangements. Bristol is a wonderful airport - small
and clean, like our airport in Portland, Maine. Maybe it would work for you,
if you are writing from USA. If going to Cardiff, there must be a way to get
there from Bristol. It is not far. Another caution in UK: Be sure
arrival date is not a Bank Holiday! Makes arrival day easier to manage.

I enjoyed Wales. Hay-on-Wye is the town with more used book stores than any
other place in the world. It was an enjoyable day, with lots of walking.
Admission to the national museum in Cardiff is free and it has a small
exhibit of very nice European laces. For your husband, we drove through
Brecon
Beacons National Park, which is very large. Perhaps some sports entertainment
is there for him. Try Google or similar, for maps and places to visit.

There are a couple people on this list who live in Wales.

Perhaps I wasn't specific enough to warrant a reply. Also if this is not
permitted, so sorry, I'm not on the chat list, please consider e-mailing me
separately. I was hoping that someone would give a recommendation of the
Wales
venue for August 2009 session, i.e. is it as lovely as it looks, has anyone
had classes with the various instructors, comfy rooms, etc. etc.? Also some
idea on how to get there, assuming arrival at Gatwick. I've only been to the
UK for classes at RSN, with dear husband arriving later to share a small
holiday in the Channel Islands & a quick trip to Thirsk. That was quite an
excursion & I don't think that I could manage the drive to Wales by myself.
This
also looked like a place that my favorite pike fisherman might enjoy as a
non-lacemaking guest. I'd really rather hear from a lacemaker rather than
rely
on a travel agent who may have to check a map to locate Wales! Anyway, it
would be lovely to have just a bit of background info before taking the
plunge. Many thanks. Sincerely, Susan
