Dear Jenny,
Your filet crochet looks OK to me, I do lots (buy yarn by the box, not by the ball). Filet crochet usually requires to be blocked to look its best after completion. You may have an understanding of what "blocking" is, if not get back to me. I have a board covered by some batting (used in quilting) and checked material which makes the process easier. I might as well describe it briefly - wet the lace in some starch solution and pin into shape before it dries, leave to dry and you will be surprised with the difference. I have done some quite large pieces, for Altar frontals, and have to block them section by section. If I have to do that I use a spray water bottle to dampen the next section when the first is dry. Hope this helps. I have a large library of patterns if you want to try more.
