Your filet crochet looks OK to me, I do lots (buy yarn by the box, not
by the ball).  Filet crochet usually requires to be blocked to look its
best after completion.



You may have an understanding of what "blocking" is, if not get back to
me.  I have a board covered by some batting (used in quilting) and
checked material which makes the process easier.  I might as well
describe it briefly - wet the lace in some starch solution and pin into
shape before it dries, leave to dry and you will be surprised with the
difference.  I have done some quite large pieces, for Altar frontals,
and have to block them section by section.  If I have to do that I use
a spray water bottle to dampen the next section when the first is dry.
