I dug the message out of the Trash and went through the header and the membership lists. It came from someone who is subscribed to lace-digest. Whether it's a Trojan horse or virus that has hijacked her addressbook, I don't know, but there is nothing to worry about. Anything that was attached is stripped by the server, so that no virus can get to you via the Arachne list.
At the same time, it's not impossible that a virus could pick up the header of a random message (like Arachne) and send itself out to everyone in an addressbook, so all I can say is keep your virus programs up to date and exercise reasonable caution. If it is something that was sent to Arachne and then sent out to everyone on this list, it's not going to do any damage. If it looks like it was sent by Arachne but was really sent by a virus, your anti-virus program should keep it up to date. If you don't have one, download one like AVG (http://www.avg.com) so that at least you have some form of protection. Otherwise you'll get no sympathy from me, just "I told you so!
