How I wish me could send *things* through cyber space. I love the challenge of sorting out a badly tangled pillow.
The worst I ever had to deal with was when my daughter was housesitting for me, and my grandson (now 22) was a toddler and I had forgotten to put my pillow out of his reach!!! When I sat down to deal with it, I discovered that there weren't just the two or three broken threads I could see. As I untangled threads from around the pins, more and more bobbins came away. Over half the threads were broken, but some were long ends and some short so I was able to repair and replace and the damaged patch didn't show. The starting point is nearly always to first make sure all the bobbins have a secure hitch and then to turn the pillow upside down (get someone else to hold it for you, if possible, so you have both hands free), and gently encourage the weight of the bobbins to pull the threads from being caught around the pins. Once most of the threads are free, carefully turn the pillow the right way up and you are left with a basic sorting out to do. One thing about a lace pillow is that because the ends of all the threads are anchored to bobbins, they can't actually get 'knotted', so it's a bit like playing a game of pick-up-sticks to just get them in the right order. I'm off out now as I was given a clue yesterday as to where I might find an elusive present for DH. Fingers crossed they are open today and do sell them.
