Brenda, you are quite right about retrolacing on the streets in Belgium. Back in the 1970s when we were living in England, Clive was in school at SHAPE HDQ in Mons. I had only been making lace a year or so but was savvy enough to realize that the "street-lacers," many of whom were young girls, were going back and forth across their pillows lacing and retrolacing. Their coin boxes seemed to be well-endowed by the fascinated tourists watching. I observed this in Bruge, Brussells, and other towns frequented by tourists. I might note that at SHAPE, every holiday of a NATO nation was celebrated by everyone at SHAPE HDQ, so almost every weekend was 3 or 4 days. We got to see alot of that part of Europe during his deployment there.
