Seeing the work that you lace makers are engaged in made me almost jealous
(no... I really do not want to learn how to make lace!) so I thought I would
tell you what I have been galvanized into.
I now have, in draft form, Pictures (6x4 printable) of 670 lace bobbins,
all annotated (short, as the notations are on the photo) there is some
doubling up etc, but it is still a lot of bobbins and there are a lot of
significant works of art amongst them.
Thanks to the many people who have been generous to me and let me photograph
their collections, or sent me scans/pictures of their bobbins over the
years.
If any of you might like to contribute to this ongoing work with a bobbin
that is special, unusual, really historic etc. I would love to add it in.
Scans at 300 dpi with the bobbin lengthways on the platen, multi views if it
is the kind of bobbin that might need me to "flatten it out" in Photoshop.
Re photos, I think a 4 megapixel camera set to "fine" would do the job well.
Plain backgrounds are the best. Thanks.
I have no notion to make any commercial gains with this collection.
Collecting is such a selfish pleasure! But I will write about it from time
to time.
I have sent these collections to two knowledgeable persons whom, I hope,
will be kind enough to edit the notations for me. One is a member of this
list, she is so encouraging, kindly chivvying me; and speaking plainly to me
when I need it. A very special thanks to her.
