Is it possible that the references to lace in Spain in the 13th and 14th centuries actually is filet lacis? This was supposed to be the earliest lace, earlier even than needle lace. I seem to recall a reference to a 12th century example, I think from an English tomb. And filet lacis is based on knotted cord. Lorelei
