Well, I finished my first big piece of Cantù. There are plenty of mistakes, but I'm still happy enough with it that I'll frame it and hang it in my office (where no one knows enough about lace to notice *grin*).
The biggest error, of course is the "about face" in the direction of some of the threads and the strange gaping stitches in the large section of mezzo punto. I discovered my error pretty close to the time of doing it, but decided to keep working from that point on to see what it would give. The result is a very imperfect lace, of course, but I liked the way it looks. I felt that it added a dimension of potential movement (if that makes any sense at all), so I left it. For a similar reason, I left the irregularities in the punto mimosa; I like the way the irregularities contribute to the feeling of the piece. If you'd like to take a look, it's on Flickr at < http://www.flickr.com/photos/35624...@n03/3297490740/>. I've started on a little Cantù insert for a display tray for a wedding gift. That is a very formalized design, so I will be more exigent with myself on execution.
